Before MacWorld started, I had some time to see the city, which included the requisite trolley ride and visit to Alcatraz. As you can see, I even met up with my buddy, the Forerunner 305. Before long, all you Mac users will be able to take advantage of MotionBased.com to track your workouts.
Hi folks... big news!!! Garmin secretly showed up at MacWorld in San Francisco today, and announced compatibility for the Mac OS X platform. You can see how secret things were... our entire booth was shrouded in plastic to protect our identity. We're thoroughly excited about joining with the folks from Cupertino, and we hope to have all of our applications Mac-ready ASAP. For more on the announcement, check out garmin.com.
Hi gang… I was featured on yesterday's National Public Radio broadcast with David Pogue. Click on the link to listen (my portion is about three minutes into the broadcast). Also, I'm featured on the CES homepage (www.cesweb.org) as the "hottest technology."
B. Newell, our Day One winner, checked in and informed us that she's excited about using her new nuvi on an extended road trip to the western U.S. that she's planning for this summer. She was turned on to Garmin by a relative who's a satellite design engineer. How's that for an endorsement?
Whew, what a week it's been! It's been a great CES, and thanks to everyone for tuning in and keeping track of my many exploits. And congratulations to those nuvi winners! Our hope is that we might be able to keep this site going in some form or fashion. What would you like to see happen? Do you have a nuvi of your own? Where have you taken it and what have you done with it? Any interesting stories, tips, or tricks? Send us emails and photos (keep it clean, folks) to email@example.com. And by all means, stay tuned.
I used the Garmin Savers Guide to get a discount into Madame Tusseaud’s Wax Museum, and guess who I met? The Chairman of the Board himself! I queued up my favorite Ol’ Blue Eyes tune on my built in MP3 playerand almost felt like I was in the Rat Pack, baby.
Betcha didn’t know THIS about me… I might be a refined world traveler, but I’m also a sucker for a good truck stop. That being the case, I’m able to store user-added customized points-of-interest, or POIs. You can load locations (from third-party sources) of just about anything – from speed cameras to truck stops. I grabbed the entire database ofFlying J Travel Plazas… so I’ll always know how to find a good cup of coffee and a friendly waitress named Flo.
In my never-ending quest to see it all, I dropped in the Venitian and took a ride on their gondola. I tried to impress our driver with some Italian from my Language Guide, but he wasn’t from Italy… he was from Iowa.
Here's a big shout out to J. Swaim of Greenbelt, MD -- our second winner of the nüvi-a-day sweepstakes. This photo she shared with us was taken on a recent vacation to Wyoming -- she tells us she loves to travel, so nüvi is a natch. She also tells us she entered the contest because her fiancé was in the market for a GPS. So if you haven't, sign up at http://www.garmin.com/nuvicontest and win... and be the envy of your loved ones!
